The Story

Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO
( 10:45 - 2:15 )

Winter prairie grays are wondrous. I’m mesmerized by how subtly they can shift from a warm to cool tone, almost as quietly as a cat walking across plush carpeting. To me, it’s all so beautiful. Although challenging to paint, I find its lonely quality well worth the effort. As I mixed grays on my palette, flocks of migrating trumpeter swans and snow geese flew overhead. Their honking mixed in with an occasional high-pitched piping note from a roosting bald eagle added to the beauty of the day. They created the kind of music I like to hear when painting. Breezy with temps in the mid 30s.
