The Story

Shaw Nature Reserve, Gray Summit, MO
( 9:00 - 12:00 )

These dried cup plants are a member of the sunflower family and can grow over twelve feet tall with a root system that descends sixteen feet below ground. They’re big, impressive and can live to be a hundred years old. In the summer their yellow flowers are prolific. Even without their broad green leaves and golden bloom, these dried stalks were still monumental. I enjoyed painting their abstract quality and the freedom I had in depicting their blackened forms. I broke out my large brushes and had some fun. A beautiful day with some wind and temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

it means the artist was getting
