The Story

Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO
( 9:45 - 12:00 )

The gray, snow dusted, winter scenery was absolutely beautiful, but the combination of strong winds and cold 20 degree temperatures was absolutely ugly. When the wind picked up, the temps went down and a shiver would ride along my spine. Looking for any relief from the gusts, I and the rest of the plein air painters tucked ourselves against the wall of a small building. It wasn’t the greatest shelter, but it certainly eased away some of the day’s breezy discomforts. Painting is difficult, but trying to paint with a jiggling easel and shaking hands is punishing. During lunch we toasted to calmer days.

u see snow in the painting,
it means the artist was standing
in snow.
If you see rain in the painting,
it means the artist was getting
very wet."
