The Story

Shaw Nature Reserve, Gray Summit, MO
( 9:45 - 1:00 )

“That’s what they did. They drained the shallow lily pond and they burned the briers that surrounded it.” That was me talking to myself as I walked into a large open area of caked earth. It was flat, it allowed me to stand deeper into the prairie, and it was a great location to set up my easel and get painting. This was nice. I didn’t have to set up on the trail and make sure there was enough room for people to get by me. Here I could spread out. It was a liberating and somewhat greedy feeling. Several times I had to quote Daffy Duck, “It’s mine, all mine.” Mild breeze with temps in the low 40s.

"If yo
u see snow in the painting,
it means the artist was standing
in snow.
If you see rain in the painting,
it means the artist was getting
very wet."
