The Story

Shaw Nature Reserve, Gray Summit, MO
( 10:00 - 1:15 )

Every time this red-winged blackbird (I called him Bob) got to perch on this limb, a brown feathered youngster would come barreling in after him. It got to the point that Bob would just yell at the annoying youth. I could almost hear him channeling W.C. Fields’ famous line, “Go away kid, ya bother me.” Eventually Bob just flew away and I didn’t see him for the rest of the day. I guess he simply gave up trying to enjoy any possible peace and quiet. However, my day was much quieter. Most of the people I met simply waved and smiled. Bright, sunny day with temps in the mid 80s.
