The Story

Shaw Nature Reserve, Gray Summit, MO
( 10:30 - 2:30 )

The most difficult aspect about painting this image was dealing with the dabbled light that streamed down between the leaves and tree branches. At some points it looked like I was painting under a disco ball with their signature lights looping and dancing across my canvas. Several times I picked up my easel and would turn in circles trying to find a light source that didn’t play havoc on my canvas. If anyone saw me doing this, I’m sure it looked like I was dancing with my easel. As long as I didn’t attempt a dip, I was fine. A beautiful August day with mostly clear skies and cool, upper 70 temperatures.

If you see rain in the painting,
it means the artist was getting
very wet."
