The Story

Busch Memorial Conservation Area,
St. Charles, MO

( 10:30 - 11:45 )

I had parked in this same location a few weeks earlier and was impressed by the large number of golden finches I saw flutter around the area. When I returned on this morning I had my fingers crossed that they would still be present. I wasn’t disappointed. They were everywhere. Like a condominium with a no vacancy sign they filled the trees. Since this finch is a composite of several birds, their frequent foraging trips to the multitude of thistles was the only act that allowed me to capture my scene. Singularly, as a model, they were terrible. But, as a group, I always had several to reference.
